Block Island Ferry: Picturesque and secluded Block Island is situated 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. So close, and yet—getting to Block Island can be a bit tricky for day-trippers, vacationers and even residents. Whether you’re traveling from New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Newport or points beyond, getting away to Block Island requires either a ferry boat ride or a quick flight from the mainland.

Here is your guide to ferry services and airlines that serve Block Island from departure points in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York State. Keep both price and timing in mind as you consider your transportation options. Always book a return trip. And seriously consider leaving your car on the mainland.

Block Island Ferry Schedule

The traditional ferry is our year-round service ferry. The traditional service operates out of the Pt. Judith terminal, located in the fishing port of Galilee (Narragansett, RI). The Traditional ferry is the only ferry that can transport freight.

Vehicle transport is only offered on the traditional ferry. For more information about transporting your vehicle, please visit our Vehicle Reservation page.

Passenger tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the ticket window on the date of travel.

Block Island Ferry New London

Block Island Ferry provides the only year-round ferry connection to Block Island and the only vehicle ferry service to the island from its departure point at Point Judith in Galilee, Rhode Island. During the high season (late May through mid-October), Block Island Ferry also provides high-speed passenger ferry service to Block Island from Point Judith: The trip takes only 30 minutes.

If you’re departing on an early-morning ferry from Point Judith and need to stay over the night before, the Lighthouse Inn of Galilee isn’t fancy, but it can’t be beaten for location. It’s located right across the street from the ferry dock and is open seasonally.

Other Ferry Departure Points

During the high season, Block Island Ferry also offers high-speed ferry service to Block Island from Perrotti Park in downtown Newport, Rhode Island, and traditional ferry service from State Pier in Fall River, Massachusetts. Travel time from Newport to Block Island is about one hour. The trip from Fall River to Block Island takes about two hours and 15 minutes.

Purchase tickets to either our Traditional or Hi-Speed ferries below. Both are available for the ease of online purchase, as well as on-site at one of our ports. Online tickets are available for purchase up until midnight on the previous calendar day.

uring the summer months, the ticket windows are open all day. In the spring, winter, and fall, ticket windows are typically open one hour in advance of each sailing. We accept cash and all major credit cards. ATM is available at our ticket office in Pt. Judith and Block Island.

Passenger tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the ticket window on the date of travel. Advance reservations are recommended for our Hi-Speed Ferry. Due to limited seating, we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance at our online ticket site, especially for weekend travel. Tickets can be purchased on the same day of travel at the ticket booth as space allows.

Block Island High-Speed Ferry

The Hi-Speed ferry provides a fast way to Block Island. Service runs out of the Newport terminal, located in Perrotti Park.

Motor Vehicle transport is Not offered on the Hi-Speed ferry. Bicycles are accepted.

Passenger tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket counter on the date of travel as space allows.

Due to limited seating, we recommend purchasing your tickets online in advance especially for weekend travel.
